Lake Manyara National Park

Lake Manyara National Park is a place of remarkable contrasts, where lush forests, open floodplains, and the shimmering soda lake come together beneath the dramatic cliffs of the Great Rift Valley. Though one of Tanzania's smaller national parks, it offers an incredibly diverse safari experience and is famous for its tree-climbing lions, large troops of baboons, and spectacular birdlife.

Location:

Located in northern Tanzania, Lake Manyara National Park sits at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment, approximately 125 km (78 miles) west of Arusha. The park forms part of Tanzania's Northern Safari Circuit and is often combined with Tarangire National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, and Serengeti National Park.

Size:

The park covers approximately 330 km² (127 sq mi), with nearly two-thirds occupied by the alkaline waters of Lake Manyara. Despite its modest size, the park encompasses an impressive variety of habitats, including groundwater forests, open grasslands, acacia woodlands, marshes, and the lakeshore.

Seasons:

  • Dry Season (June – October): Excellent wildlife viewing as animals gather around reliable water sources, with pleasant temperatures and clear conditions for game drives.
