Location:
Located in northern Tanzania, Tarangire National Park lies approximately 120 km (75 miles) southwest of Arusha and forms part of Tanzania's renowned Northern Safari Circuit, alongside Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, and Lake Manyara. The park takes its name from the Tarangire River, the lifeline that sustains wildlife throughout the dry season.
Size:
Covering approximately 2,850 km² (1,100 sq mi), Tarangire is Tanzania's sixth-largest national park. Its landscape combines open savannah, seasonal swamps, acacia woodland, and iconic baobab trees, creating a diverse habitat for rich wildlife.
Seasons:
- Dry Season (June – October): The Tarangire River becomes the park's primary water source, attracting enormous concentrations of elephants, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, and predators.

Best time to visit:
Tarangire is a year-round safari destination, but June to October offers perhaps the most spectacular wildlife viewing as thousands of animals gather along the Tarangire River.

Animal population:
Tarangire is home to some of East Africa's largest elephant herds, with groups of up to 300 elephants commonly seen during the dry season. As wildlife converges around the Tarangire River, the park supports exceptional numbers of buffaloes, zebras, giraffes, wildebeest, and predators.
