Learn about the art of coffee and what it takes to grow from the Chagga people in Marangu area of Kilimanjaro. We will visit the Marangu waterfalls and a Chagga village in Marangu where you will learn about the historic conflict and wars between the Maasai and the Chagga people. The Chagga lived in a huge underground cave where they even fit kettle - and you will learn about they did it all. How they trained their warriors, and how the war ended.

Itinerary:

A full day trip to a Chagga village and Marangu Waterfalls

Pick-up in the morning from your accommodation in Moshi or Arusha.
Scenic drive across open landscapes on the way to the Marangu.
A visit of the Marangu waterfalls - the walk is not long, but steep (stairs down)
Warm welcome in the Chagga village and coffee farm, with traditional songs that the community sings when harvesting coffee beans.
You will learn:
how coffee beans grow and what conditions they need
how to harvest them
the stages of preparation for roasting, peeling, smashing the beans and roasting
You will taste your own coffee from coffee beans that you prepared.
Visit of the Chagga cave and introduction of the history of Maasai-Chagga war.
Insights into old Chagga and Maasai economy: cattle herding, beadwork, and trade.
Time for interaction, Q&A, culture shop visit (paintings, artwork).
Drop-off at your accommodation in Moshi or Arusha in late afternoon/evening.
