Join us for this fast and challenging 5-day Rongai Route trek up Mount Kilimanjaro, perfect for experienced climbers craving a low-crowd adventure. This northern route offers solitude, tent camping, and a 60–70% summit chance due to its shorter duration and less time for acclimatization. We’ll cover 74 km through rainforest, moorland, alpine desert, and icy summits.

Itinerary:

Day 1:

•   Drive to Rongai Gate (1,950m), register, hike through rainforest to Simba Camp.

•   Distance: 7km. Time: 3–4 hrs. Elevation: 1,950m to 2,600m.

•   Sleep: Simba Camp (tents). Food: Lunch, dinner. Tip: Pack rain gear.

Day 2:

   Trek through moorland with Kibo views, camp at Second Cave.

•   Distance: 6km. Time: 3–4 hrs. Elevation: 2,600m to 3,450m.

•   Sleep: Second Cave (tents). Food: Breakfast, lunch, dinner. Tip: Stay hydrated.

Day 3:

•   Hike to moorland, reach Kikelewa Camp for acclimatization.

•   Distance: 6km. Time: 3–4 hrs. Elevation: 3,450m to 3,600m.

•   Sleep: Kikelewa Camp (tents). Food: Breakfast, lunch, prem dinner. Tip: Monitor altitude effects.

Day 4:

•   Trek to Mawenzi Tarn (4,330m) for acclimatization, continue to Kibo Hut.

•   Distance: 11km. Time: 5–6 hrs. Elevation: 3,600m to 4,700m.

•   Sleep: Kibo Hut (tents). Food: Breakfast, lunch, dinner. Tip: Prep for summit.

Day 5:

•   Midnight climbs to Gilman’s Point (5,681m), then Uhuru Peak (5,895m). Descend via Marangu Route to Horombo Hut.

•   Distance: 22km (6km up, 16km down). Time: 6–8 hrs up, 5–6 hrs down.

•   Elevation: 4,700m to 5,895m to 3,700m.

•   Sleep: Horombo Hut (huts). Food: Breakfast, lunch, dinner. Tip: Pace climb, watch scree descent.

Day 6:

  • Hike to alpine desert, reach Barafu Camp, rest for summit. 
  • Distance: 4km. Time: 3–4 hrs. Elevation: 4,000m to 4,670m. 
  • Sleep: Barafu Camp (tents). Food: Breakfast, lunch, dinner. Tip: Prep for midnight climb. 

Activities:

•   Guided 5-day Kilimanjaro trekking expedition

•   Nature and wildlife viewing along the trail

•   Acclimatization hikes and altitude preparation

•   Summit attempt to Uhuru Peak (5,895m)

•  Cultural experience in Moshi town before and after the climb

Optional Activities:

  • Extra night(s) in Moshi before/after the trek
  • Gear rental (sleeping bags, jackets, boots, poles, etc.)
  • Private toilet tent for added comfort
